Atty. Gonzales specializes in maritime litigation, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgment and foreign arbitral awards in the Philippines, and commercial and construction arbitration. She regularly advises foreign clients on a variety of wet and dry maritime matters. She graduated from San Beda with a degree in Bachelor of Laws in 1994 and obtained her masters in International Commercial Law at the University of Nottingham in 2001. She was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Maritime Law Association of the Philippines from October 2011-October 2012 and President from October 2010- October 2011. She was a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the House Transportation Committee of the Philippine Congress in the drafting of the Proposed Maritime Code. As resource person, Theresa facilitated the discussions of the TWG and provided inputs on ship mortgage, maritime liens, maritime arbitration, and international and domestic carriage of goods by sea. She is regularly invited as a speaker on ship arrest and on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in the Philippines. She has written an article on the “Recognition and Enforcement of a Foreign Arbitral Award in the Philippines” for a Philippine law journal. Four of the cases she handled as a young lawyer in the trial court level were successfully upheld by the Philippine Supreme Court and contributed to jurisprudence on employee termination dispute, shareholder’s dispute, forgery of a special power of attorney, and criminal procedure.
