Atty. Dennis R. Gorecho obtained his Bachelor of Science, major in Economics (Dean’s Medalist) in 1991 and Bachelor of Laws in 1998 from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. He was admitted to the bar in April 1999.
He became a writer/reporter of well-known media outfits while finishing law studies under the working student program such as Today newspaper, Reuters, Associated Press, Alliance French Presse, United Press International and Philippine Graphics, and was a website manager of the GMA New Media, Inc. Atty. Gorecho joined the Sapalo Velez Bundang Bulilan (SVBB) law offices in 2001. At present, he is the Junior Partner who heads the seafarers’ division of the law firm.
Under his leadership, the SVBB, in partnership with the various maritime organizations like the Apostleship of the Sea (AOS), United Filipino Seafarers (UFS) and the Luneta Seafarers Welfare Foundation (LUSWELF), actively champions seafarers’ rights through the holding of year-round, nationwide seminars to inform seafarers and their families of their rights and the legal measures to enforce them.
He has been appointed as vice president from 2008 to 2013 for the MARLAW and is the national president for 2016-17. He is a member of the National Seafarers Day (NSD) committee and one of the judges for the Search for Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines .
Atty. Gorecho is a legal commentator on maritime issues on print, radio and TV media outfits. He is presently a co-anchor of the radio program Bantay OCW Usapang Marino aired over Radio Inquirer every Wednesday 10:30 am to 12:00 noon.
